Organized by the Platform Cultural Heritage Cultural Production
The interdisciplinary research project “Written in the Landscape. Places, Traces, and Memories of
World War I in the Sexten Dolomites" of the Platform Cultural Heritage Cultural Production of the Faculty of Design and Art/unibz is dedicated to documenting and comprehending the significance of both the material evidence of World War I in the landscape of the Three Peaks Plateau and the memories of war that still survive in the village of Sexten/Sesto, which was destroyed and evacuated in 1915. The conference will present the results of the research project and host contributions from international guests to reflect on the ideologization of the landscape, conflict archaeology, cultures of remembrance, and the local material heritage of war. A guided excursion to the former front line on the Three Peaks Plateau is planned for the third day.
